Jakarta Holds Series of Event to Commemorate Environment Day 2022

The Jakarta Environment (LH) Agency holds a series of events to enliven Environment Day (HLH) 2022 which is commemorated every June 5.

HLH 2022 is held in form of education and public campaigns to raise people's awareness, especially on air pollution

Environment Day 2022 is commemorated with the theme 'Clean Air for Jakarta' which focused on the air pollution issue.

Jakarta LH Agency's Education and Public Relations Section Head Yogi Ikhwan said that Environment Day is one of the routine LH activities which are held every year. Besides, it aims to socialize environmental issues as a part of Jakarta's 495th Anniversary event.

The activity aimed to follow up on Jakarta Governor's Instruction (Ingub) No. 66/2019 on Accelerating Implementation of Air Quality Control in Jakarta Province through a multisectoral approach.

A series of events would be held in collaboration with various institutions and communities that are consistent with community assistance programs related to environmental and public health issues, transportation, city planning, and air pollution information.

Institutions and communities involved in this activity were Vital Strategies, the Indonesian Institute for Transportation and Development Policy (ITDP) as the main collaborator.

Meanwhile, the supporting collaborators were Ayo Ke Taman, Bicara Udara, Nafas, the institute for Essential Service Reform (IESR), UNICEF Indonesia, and Nekropolis.

"As planned, HLH 2022 is held in form of education and public campaigns to raise people's awareness, especially on air pollution by supporting and carrying out activities to create clean air in Jakarta," he explained, Friday (6/3).

It was held as a collective action to clean the air by increasing public understanding of air pollution, building awareness about how air pollution affects health, and explaining easy actions to overcome air pollution as an effort to protect the environment and health, such as taking public transportation and green vehicles.

"Collaboration is one of the main keys to improving air quality in Jakarta," he asserted.

Here are the series of HLH 2022 events:

- The preliminary event for HLH 2022 is a one-month digital campaign in collaboration with the community and Key Opinion Leaders to voice the importance of clean air for Jakarta

This campaign consisted of interactive Instagram filters, Instagram campaigns, a podcast series inviting speakers from collaborators and communities, and an integrated campaign with public transportation fleets in Jakarta such as TransJakarta and MRT

- Pre-event in form of Key Opinion Leader and media briefing to invite media partners to cover the peak event of HLH 2022

- The concept for the peak event is activities at Car Free Day and Tebet Eco Park:

1. Talk show - with representatives from the Jakarta Environment Agency, collaboration partners, and representatives of young people with the theme 'What Can I Do to Reduce Air Pollution?'.

2. Musical performances by local musicians

3. Curatorial art installation with the theme 'Imagine Jakarta Without Air Pollution

4. Activation by each collaborator, with a theme that encourages more friendly behavior towards Jakarta's air (for example vehicle electrification installations, solar panels, cycling, and others)

5. Food and beverage booths

6. Opening event and riding activity with BikeShare by the Jakarta Governor Anies Base with route from KRL Station/Transjakarta Bus Stop/Electric Bus to Tebet Eco Park

"The peak event of HLH 2022 will be held offline on Sunday (6/5) at 7 AM located at Tebet Eco Park," he said.
